Steve provides consulting services to the retirement and investment industry.

He has worked with clients to help them grow customers and wallet share through:
  • Sizing and segmenting the investing and retirement opportunity
  • Leading research efforts to establish a baseline of customer awareness & attitudes
    toward the client as a provider of investing and retirement services
  • Providing strategic direction to website retirement and investing tool development
  • Leading the team of consultants that worked with the client’s product groups to:
  • Establish an enterprise level product group and recommend the functions to be
    performed by this group and those that should remain in the business lines
  • Perform an enterprise wide product assessment and provide a recommended
    product continuum, including: current state and competitive assessments, identify
    key gaps and new product recommendations, recommendations to rationalize
    product overlaps; relationship and product pricing by channel
  • Assess existing customer profiling approaches, questionnaires and the  process
    for recommending client solutions, and provide a new profiling and “play book”
    process for more consistent,  enhanced profiling and  recommended solutions
  • Perform a comprehensive analysis of customer retirement income needs and
    provide a strategic approach, along with specific planning and product allocation
    solutions to increase the client’s effectiveness in capturing the retirement income
    opportunity

Previously, Steve also led several landmark research studies, including:

  • he Merrill Lynch New Retirement Studies: A Perspective From The Baby Boomer
    Generation and  A Perspective from Individuals and Employers

Steve Mitchell is a past member of the Retirement Income Industry Association (RIIA) Board of
Directors and has served as Director of Advisor Education for RIIA.

A graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Steve is a frequent speaker at industry events and
a regular media spokesperson on a wide range of retirement and investing topics. He is also the
author of several timely and thought-provoking articles, including:
